GE, under the contract, will supply and install two C-7 steam turbines to increase the capacity of the Erbil Power Plant by 500MW which will be sufficient to power about 100,000 Iraqi households and boosts its thermal efficiency by 48%.
Mass Global chairman Ahmad Ismail said converting our Erbil facility to combined-cycle service supports the Kurdistan Regional Government’s policy to increase the thermal efficiency of its power generation facilities.
"This new agreement builds on our growing relationship with GE, a global technology leader, whose proven and reliable advanced energy technology has been employed in our gas power facilities since 2006," Ismail said.
GE Energy Middle East president and CEO Joseph Anis said, "It builds on our growing relationship with Mass Global, supporting its efforts to enable a reliable and efficient supply of electricity needed to fuel the growth and development of the Kurdistan region."
The two GE C-7 steam turbines will be added to the existing eight GE Frame 9E gas turbines operating at the site.
GE will manufacture the steam turbines in Schenectady, New York, US, and ship them to the project site during the second half of 2013.
The combined-cycle plant will start commercial service in the second half of 2014.
