Mavel has been awarded contracts to refurbish the Štvanice and Veletov hydroelectric power plants in the Czech Republic
Povodi Vltavy s.p., a Czech water management authority overseeing all activities related to the Vltava River, has contracted Mavel for work on the Štvanice Hydroelectric Power Plant in Prague. The company will perform a complete refurbishment of the plant’s generating equipment and assembly, testing and commissioning services. It will also replace portions of the existing turbines, including a new runner and distributor, and also provide some rehabilitation of the existing generators. The diameter of each turbine’s four-blade runner is about 3400 mm. Completion is expected in the second quarter of 2019.
Štvanice power plant was completed in 1914, when the area was still part of the Habsburg Empire but was decommissioned in 1972. Eventually, the state power utility completely renovated the plant. The original architecture and landscaping was preserved and Štvanice was back online in 1987. The renovated plant housed three “S” Kaplan turbines, each with a flow capacity of 55cm, head of just under 4 meters and stated installed power of 1.9MW.
Mavel has also signed a contract with Povodi Labe s.p. to refurbish the Veletov hydroelectric power plant located about one hour east of Prague on the Labe (Elbe) River. Mavel will construct a new powerhouse, supply turbine, generator, and related equipment and provide installation, testing and commissioning. The Veletov plant will utilize a new Kaplan PIT turbine type Mavel KP2000K3 with a direct connection to a horizontal synchronous generator. With head of 3.9m and flow of 24cm, the power plant will have installed power of 848kW. Completion is expected for the third quarter of 2019.
