The project, which is part of a $600m installation of a scrubber system at the center in West Alton, allows Ameren Missouri comply with federal environmental regulations requiring major reductions in sulfur dioxide emissions and also helps the plant reduce its mercury emissions.

Acting as the general contractor and construction manager, MC Industrial oversaw the installation of two wet flue gas desulphurization scrubber systems, a sophisticated system that removes about 95% of the plant’s sulfur dioxide emissions.

MC Industrial oversaw foundation construction, structural steel erection, duct assembly, erection and equipment setting for the project.

Sioux Energy Center, completed in 1968, is a two-unit, 986MW coal-fired generating plant.
