The installation work included the heavy-lift of a 3,250t jacket. According to the firm, this lift has set the record as the largest jacket lifted by a vessel to-date.

The six-pile platform was lifted by the DB50 in tie-back mode over the stern of the vessel in water depths of 391ft on an existing well site.

Piles were driven to a penetration of 430ft and a 2,300t drilling and production deck was later installed on the jacket.

Following the platform installation, McDermott has secured additional transportation and installation contracts for the US GoM, which are slated to be executed by the DB50 during the first half of 2015.

McDermott International vice-president for Americas / Europe / Africa Scott Munro said: "This milestone for the DB50 further demonstrates that McDermott has the right assets to meet the demands of our clients.

"The project specified that the jacket be lifted, not launched, and our heavy-lift vessel fit the criteria, providing the flexibility required to install a jacket of this magnitude and its corresponding deck."

The company said the DB50 is capable of lifting surface loads of around 4,400t and lowering up to 480t in 11,500ft of water.
