MEI’s work for the township will include the establishment of energy conservation goals; performing baseline studies of township energy use, implementing outreach to the community and neighboring municipalities, and working to identify potential funding sources for ongoing energy efficiency investments.

The township’s energy planning efforts are being funded by a federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.

MEI said that it has secured the contract through a competitive selection process, building on its credibility to help its clients save money in energy costs through strategies including energy audits, procurement, utility management, building design and construction efficiencies, and implementation of alternative and renewable energy sources.

Mondre Energy develops conservation strategies focusing on lighting, heating and cooling, and fleet management for municipal and government clients to help them achieve energy efficiency, cost reduction, and energy procurement.

Judith Mondre, founder and president of Mondre Energy, said: “Energy costs are a major line item in municipal budgets and a number of factors, such as the coming removal of PECO rate caps in 2011, will only add to long-term cost uncertainty.

”Forward-thinking municipalities like Upper Darby are being proactive in addressing the need for greater energy efficiency. Not only can this offset township costs, but it can have a significantly positive impact on the environment.”
