The specific terms of the contract with Telles, the joint venture between Metabolix and Archer Daniels Midland Company that produces Mirel bioplastics, have not been disclosed.
Bob Findlen, vice president sales and marketing of Telles, stated, We are looking forward to working with Bioverse, whose AquaSphere product application demonstrates how Mirel bioplastics add functionality, economic benefits and environmental value to an already successful product.
Bioverse is the first customer announcement in the marine and fresh water market, one of six targeted markets for Telles. Bioverse’s approach is a good example of a customer leveraging the unique environmental benefits of Mirel over the traditional petroleum based materials used in this market. This demonstrates that thick injection molded parts made from Mirel, as well as film and sheet applications will biodegrade in fresh water. This is a unique selling advantage. It is indicative of how beneficial the use of Mirel can be in reducing persistent plastic debris in the marine environment.
The AquaSphere is a submersible, plastic-enclosed water treatment system. Bioverse’s selection of Mirel resins for their AquaSphere product enables them to provide their customers a more eco-friendly, biodegradable, maintenance free alternative versus conventional chemical treatments.
