The biomass plant, proposed for construction in Syktyvkar in the Komi Republic of Russia, is scheduled to begin operations in 2014.

As per the agreed terms, Metso will deliver process equipment, such as a Metso belt dryer and a Metso DNA automation system as well as technical advisory services for installation, commissioning and training.

The 4MW power plant will generate power from bark and wood residues obtained from the Syktyvkar sawmill and other feedstock.

Electricity produced at the plant will feed the local grid, while heat will be utilized in the belt dryer.

Metso Russia power business line director Nikolay Doroshenko said that the company will supply all equipment from the fuel handling system to the flue gas cleaning system.

"The new power plant will also run under a Metso automation system," Doroshenko said.

Bioenergeticheskaya Kompaniya CEO Alexey Kryukov added, "Sawmill residues that have long been stored at the site of the Syktyvkar sawmill will now be used as fuel for the new power plant."
