Metso’s scope of work under the contract includes fuel handling, installation o f a large-scale KUVO drying plant and a circulating fluidized bed gasifier, modification work on the existing coal boiler, and automation and IT systems.

The plant will be built as a part of the existing coal-fired power plant and will be fuelled using wood-based biomasses.

Construction of this plant will help in the replacement of 25-40% of coal with renewable energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 230,000 tons per year.

The biogasification plant is slated to be commissioned in December 2012.

Metso Manager for gasifiers and pyrolysis systems Juhani Isaksson said the company has a great opportunity to offer a solution that includes biomass drying technology and gasification.

He also said this gives room for a diverse range of biofuels and a significant share of biomass in the combustion process.
