The power boiler with the steam capacity of 183 MW will utilize bubbling fluidized bed technology and will burn forest residue, willow chips and straw pellets to produce electricity to the national grid and district heat for the city of Szczecin. Metso will also supply plant’s automation and information management system.

PGE Zespol is modernizing its Szczecin CHP plant and will now replace old coal-fired boilers with the new unit to combust biomass. With the new fluidized bed technology the company will significantly increase its green energy production from renewable fuels. By its capacity the Szczecin green energy plant will be the largest biomass energy project in Central Europe and it has received support from Szczecin Province Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, as well as National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
