Located in the German Bight, approximately 90km from shore, the wind farm is planned to be commissioned in 2019.

The contract will include a 15-year full scope service package to maximizing the power production of the wind farm.

Deutsche Bucht CEO Albert Jochems said: “We have seen keen interest by the wider industry in the Deutsche Bucht project owing to it being one of the few remaining projects in Europe with a grid connection, permit and a feed in tariff without the need to participate in an auction.”

Highland Group, an investment vehicle of Lord Laidlaw of Rothiemay, has acquired the Deutsche Bucht project in 2012.

In June 2016, Dutch offshore contractor Van Oord partnered with Highland Group to develop, finance and build the Deutsche Bucht wind farm.

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind CEO Jens Tommerup said: “Being nominated for our second project in Germany underlines the strength of the V164-8.0MW as a competitive turbine for the market, where distance from the coast and deeper waters demands a larger and more powerful machine.

“Furthermore, our long term full scope service offering will ensure maximized output at the site, optimizing the business case for British Wind Energy and making offshore wind power even more affordable.”

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind is a 50-50 joint venture between Vestas Wind Systems and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI).
