Under the $200m contract, MHPS will replace turbines and other core equipment in order to boost capacity of CFE’s large-scale thermal plant power generation capacity from 1,200MW to 1,320MW.
Located in the city of Piedras Negras in the state of Coahuila in northern Mexico, the facility’s core equipment was originally supplied by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Babcock-Hitachi K.K. (BHK) in 1982, and for 32 years, the plant has dependably provided power to the local region.
In addition to delivering steam turbines and other core equipment, MHPS will be responsible for all aspects from auxiliary equipment design, manufacture and procurement to civil engineering, installation and test operation, as part of the contract.
Work under the contract on the first unit is scheduled to start in February 2017 followed by work on the remaining three units in every six months thereafter.
The project is planned to be completed in February 2019.
