The new PICDEM Lab Development Kit is geared toward educators, students and for those who are new to MCUs. The new kit comes complete with a development board including five popular 8-bit PIC MCUs; a bag of discrete components; a PICkit 2 Debugger/Programmer; and a CD containing a User’s Guide, labs and the application examples.

A solderless prototyping area on new PICDEM Lab development board enables users to explore numerous application examples described in hands-on labs from PICDEM Lab User’s Guide that comes with the kit. The easy-to-follow labs offer an intuitive introduction to the common peripherals and then move into various application examples to reinforce the core concepts. Even users with the little or no knowledge of how to incorporate microcontrollers into analog circuits can do so with ease. In addition, expansion headers offer complete access/connectivity to all the MCU pins and mounted components on newPICDEM Lab development board, allowing the designers to evaluate a variety of 8-bit MCUs and choose the right one for their application.

“The PICDEM Lab Development Kit is a great addition to Microchip’s 8-bit tool suite, offering an off-the-shelf evaluation kit for many of Microchip’s low pin count 8-bit MCUs,” stated Derek Carlson, vice president of Microchip’s Development Tools group. “The kit provides an affordable solution for new customers who wish to learn how our advanced peripherals can help simplify their designs, as well as an excellent resource for educators who design microcontroller-based engineering courses.”

The code examples for each lab in the new PICDEM Lab Development Kit are available in high-level C programming language, utilizing the free HI-TECH C Compiler in main user’s guide. The Flowcode V3 VPE offers a flowchart-based method for developing the embedded applications.
