Using their total capacity of over 1100 controlled modified value at risk (MVaR), the SVC systems will provide post-contingency support and voltage regulation for the Oncor power system.

Mitsubishi Electric said it continues to expand its flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) business for SVCs and other grid-stabilizing equipment in North America, where demand for transmission and distribution equipment is expected to grow.

Mitsubishi Electric Power Products president and CEO Brian Heery said, "Oncor has trusted Mitsubishi Electric over the past two decades with their transmission equipment needs. We appreciate the confidence that Oncor has now shown in our power electronics expertise with this SVC award."

These SVCs are expected to be placed into commercial operation in January of 2014.
