Under the contract, MHPS will partner with Mongolia based engineering firm, MCS International, to undertake the refurbishment work including addition/renewal of related equipment at on eight units at the thermal power plant in Ulaanbaatar.

The coal-fired thermal power generation plant is claimed to be the country’s largest of its kind.

MHPS plans to complete the refurbishment work in October 2018. Terms of the contract were undisclosed.

Backed by a Japanese ODA loan from the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), the re project is aimed at improving the efficiency and service life of the power plant.

In particular, MHPS will renew the core components of the coal pulverizers in units No. 5 through No. 8 to extend their service life.

Designed to grind coal into fine particles and remove coarse-grained particles to ensure high thermal efficiency of boiler units, the coal pulverizers will help in reducing nitrogen oxides and other emissions.

The firm will also integrate soot blowers to all units from No.1 to No. 8 to prevent fall-off in heat-exchange efficiency. The Soot blowers are designed to help maintain efficiency of heat exchangers by removing soot and dust from boilers and other equipment.

The refurbishment work is expected to contribute to the realization of a more stable power supply.
