Mari Petroleum Company (MPCL) operates the block with 60% interest while MOL Pakistan Oil & Gas owns the remaining 40%.

In 2011, the joint venture discovered first crude oil at Halini-1 Exploratory Well-1 in the Karak block.

MOL Group confirmed the new structure as an independent closure at about 8km distance from Halini discovery, based on a comprehensive 3D seismic campaign.

Drilled to a depth of 3,003m in March, the Kalabagh-1A ST1well tested three formations that flowed gas and condensate.

The well in the Datta Formation flowed gas and condensate at a rate of 618 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) and 160 barrels per day (bblpd), respectively while in the Samanasuk Formation, it flowed gas and condensate at a rate of 877 boepd and 180 bblpd, respectively.

During testing, the well at the Lockhart Formation also flowed commercial quantity of crude oil at 500 bblpd.

MOL Pakistan managing director Akos Grosz said: "MOL is committed to help alleviate the energy deficits of Pakistan by maximizing exploration and enhancing current production through cutting-edge technologies".

In May, MOL made gas discovery in the Mardan Khel-1 well of the Tal Block in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, which tested four formations that flowed with high volumes of gas and condensate.

The Tal block facilities produce 80,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboepd) gas and 37kboepd of liquids.
