Moundsville Power will now proceed to financing of the project, which is scheduled to be commissioned in early 2018.

Construction work is planned to commence in late 2015.

Black & Veatch will be responsible for design and construction of the $815m plant while General Electric will provide the natural gas and steam turbines as well as other power island equipment.

General Electric is also responsible for a long-term maintenance to ensure efficient operation of the power project, which is expected to contribute $8.4bn over its 30-year operational life to West Virginia’s economy.

During the estimated 30-month construction, the project will generate more than 400 jobs construction period, according to an economic impact study carried out by Tom Witt of Witt Economics.
