The 8Gbps Fibre Channel Dual Transponder module offers customers unrepeated distances of up to 80 km.

“All mission critical storage applications need remote back up, and with this new module, the LambdaDriver becomes one of the few systems on the market that can provide the highest speed Fibre Channel link across the wide area,” said Noam Lotan, president and chief executive officer of MRV.

While it offers the maximum 8Gbps Fibre Channel rate, the new dual transponder module is backward compatible with existing LambdaDriver systems and features automatic speed selection to also support both 4Gbps and 2Gbps data rates. Customers can upgrade existing systems simply by adding this module to a LambdaDriver chassis and scale the system according to bandwidth needs.

In the storage market in which latency and data integrity are critical, this module offers LambdaDriver customers both low-latency and high data rate transmission of 8Gbps Fibre Channel over the long haul. The transponder supports remote loop-back functionality as a failover mechanism in the event of a network outage and provides an essential tool for troubleshooting and maintenance operations.

Both a multimode and a single mode optical SFP+ module are available for the transponder, giving network managers a choice between 850 nm multimode optics for distances up to 300m, or 1310nm single mode optics for distance up to 10Km depending upon the installed cable plant and distance to the remote location.

The modules are available immediately from MRV’s sales force or its worldwide distribution channel.

About the MRV’s LambdaDriver Platforms:

MRV’s LambdaDriver WDM platforms provide flexible CWDM and DWDM solutions, enabling enterprises to build campus-wide backbone networks and service providers to create new revenue opportunities due to more efficient use of their existing fiber infrastructure. Three different active chassis (LD400, LD800 and LD1600) and 2 passive chassis (LPD100 and LDP300) with interchangeable modules provide a solution for any network size and service density. Transparent transport allows support for all high-speed LAN, WAN or SAN services. The sub-rate TDM technology allows even more efficient use of the available fiber by aggregating low rate protocols over one wavelength. The LambdaDriver platforms support both CWDM and DWDM technologies, thus enabling a cost efficient initial investment in infrastructure with CWDM and a smooth upgrade path towards full capacity DWDM networks. LambdaDriver platforms are NEBS certified for use in U.S. carrier central office applications.

MRV is a US-based provider of products and services for out-of-band networking, WDM and optical transport, metro Ethernet, fiber optic components, 10GE and other service aware networking products.
