Multiconsult is to carry out five prefeasibility studies for hydropower projects with capacities up to 120MW in Sabah, Malaysia, after winning a contract from Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB).
The projects are located at Padas, Liwagu and Tuaran rivers in Sabah, the northern part of Borneo and are important projects in Malaysia’s plan to meet the region’s growing electricity demand. Earlier desk studies have estimated that the projects could range in size from 25 to 120MW.
"After successfully working together on the Upper Paddas project, we are pleased to continue our good co-operation with Sabah Electricity on these important projects,” commented Knut Norén, Managing Director of Multiconsult UK. “This is a significant new reference projects for our South-East Asia business and builds on our experience gained from more than thirty years of hydropower developments in the region.”
A combined team from Multiconsult’s UK and Norway offices will perform the studies.
Multiconsult’s previous engagement in Malaysia includes the feasibility study for the 192MW Upper Padas project in Borneo and sediment assessments in Sarawak.
