Two Alfa Laval separation centrifuges are already set for integration into an oil cleaning system that is being designed to extract oil from contaminated water produced by the BP oil spill.

The company said that this equipment should function similar to centrifuge separation systems that BP has already ordered from a company co-founded by actor-entrepreneur Kevin Costner.

John Shearer, COO of NACF, said: “We are enthusiastic about converting these company assets to help clean up the oil in the Gulf. We have a lot of equipment at the Poteet refinery that should be able to be used for this project. This facility was once the seventh largest biodiesel production facility in the US.”

BP has already dedicated $20bn to address the negative impacts of the oil spill, the company added.
