The Hardee County Commission has recently approved the agreement for developing the $700m power project.

The facility will be designed, built and operated by Hensel Phelps Construction Co for National Solar Power.

National Solar Power has signed a deal with Progress Energy Florida and is having discussions with other potential customers to buy electricity generated by the Hardee County solar project.

National Solar Power CEO James Scrivener said Florida is the new frontier when it comes to solar farm development.

"With its ample property available, easy access to the electric grid and nearby population centers, the Hardee County community is a prime location to put solar energy in the region’s power mix," Scrivener said.
