National Grid is investing GBP70 million to upgrade 350km of London’s gas distribution supply network. Part of this investment includes a GBP5 million spend in the London borough of Enfield, of which GBP300,000 is associated with the Enfield Town project.

The work, taking place between London Road and Chase Side, is deemed vital to improve local gas supplies and forms part of National Grid’s mains replacement program agreed with the Health and Safety Executive to replace all metallic mains within 30m of buildings with new plastic pipe.

Mick Morris, construction operations manager of the North London Gas Alliance, said: We are aware this is a busy commercial area and are working closely with local traders to ensure any inconvenience is minimized. Shops and business will be open for business as usual. The new gas mains will have a lifespan of around 80 years if left undisturbed once they are in the ground.
