Work will start on September 22, 2008, on a five-week project to renew nearly 400m of medium pressure gas mains on Hempstead Road and Grove Mill Lane.

The existing 12-inch diameter, cast iron mains will be replaced with modern, durable plastic pipes that have a lifespan of at least 80 years if left undisturbed in the ground, and require little or no maintenance. The work will be carried out by Morrison Utility Services on behalf of National Grid.

Brian Canfield, construction operations engineer at National Grid, said: This essential work is part of National Grid’s ongoing investment in Watford’s gas network that will enable local people to continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies for decades to come.
