The cooperative said it chosen to install the Sensus FlexNetTM utility communications network, which would help it provide usage information for its nearly 13,000 member, nine-county service territory in central Texas.

This year, NVEC plans to embark on a three-month pilot program with residential iCon A electric meters and two base stations. Eventually, the plan is to replace all of its over 18,000 meters with Sensus technology.

NVEC’s Kayla Sanders of Member Services noted that the firm is implementing the Sensus FlexNet system at the recommendation of the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative.

"Their recommendation, along with that of comparable cooperatives in the area, assured us that the licensed spectrum and point-to-multipoint network would be ideal for reaching our rural members."

The Sensus FlexNet utility network is expected to serve as a foundation for future outage management capabilities with NVEC’s Milsoft system.

In addition, the technology will integrate with NVEC’s existing Daffron customer information system. The cooperative believes that the Sensus AMI technology will be an excellent match for its rural environment that stretches over 5,000 miles.
