The Andhra Pradesh government arranged for site visits near Tirupathi and Krishnapatnam Port for suitable land to construct the facility. However, the company asked the state government to allocate 1,000 acres of government land located in Mannavaram village of Chittoor district.
Assurance of support has been given by the state government for the implementation of the project and for the required infrastructure. The construction of the plant would offer indirect employment for 25,000 to 30,000 people and direct employment for 6,000 people.
NBPPL is an equal joint venture between Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) and NTPC Limited, a power producer.
