Nebras Power and Mitsui will carry out a feasibility study for a floating storage and regasification units (FSRU) and a natural gas power plant.

The study will cover development, financing, construction, operation and maintenance aspects of the proposed project.

The Peninsula cited Nebras Power CEO Khalid Mohammed Jolo as saying: "We seek to get Nebras Power first investment in the Republic of Senegal, and we hope that by this project we will be supporting the electricity needs in Senegal and also contributing to stimulate the Senegalese economy.

"We will ensure that the latest available technology would be implemented in the project and at competitive prices."

Power generated from the power plant will be sold to Senelec under a long-term agreement.

The decision to develop LNG project comes as the country mostly depends on expensive fuel oil to meet its power demands, reported Reuters.

Nebras is 60% owned by Qatar Electricity and Water, while Qatar Holding and Qatar Petroleum International each hold 20%.
