The dam will provide electricity to the nearby provinces of Bie and Benguela and supply irrigation water to new farms in the central and southern regions of Angola.
The second stage of the repairs is to commence in the next financial year. The first stage, which included repairs to the spillway and gates were completed early this year. The full repair of the dam is expected to cost US$70M.
