As per the plans, NGPI will launch a new wood-based biomass energy generation venture with Nippon Energy Solution (NES).

The venture will build three separate facilities located in the Japanese regions of Miyazaki and Kagoshima.

The project, which is expected to break ground around April 2015, will generate 248GWh of electricity per year.

Upon completion, the $169.67m project will provide enough electricity for about 44,000 households.

NES will be responsible for the project’s development, operation and fuel supply.

The combined three 34.5MW biomass facilities will utilize materials that include 15,000t of woodchips/month from domestic contractors.

NGPI said long-term supply contracts with local timber unions have already been secured and will supply about 50% of the materials.

The project, which is expected to be commissioned by the fourth quarter of 2016, is also seeking a plant operator for a minimum 20-year period.

The energy generated from the biomass facilities will be sold to a major PPA carrier via the Feed-in Tariff Program.

NGPI president Nisha Joshi said: "The NGPI team is very excited about developing these prestigious biomass projects in Japan along with NES.

"We are in the day and age where we have to use technologies to convert any waste or remains into energy and keep the cycle going. This will not only help clean the waste from the world’s growing population, but also keep up with the growing energy demand."
NGPI and NES plan to increase their biomass power plant business by over 100MW in Japan in the future.
