The company’s capital expenditure for the last fiscal was about INR38bn. NHPC has set a target of adding 5,322MW by the end of the current five-year plan, out of which 1,030MW has already been commissioned. At present, the company has an installed capacity of approximately 5,175MW.

SK Garg, chairman and managing director of NHPC, said: “We would add 700MW capacity during the current financial year, over and above the 120MW project in Jammu and Kashmir that would be commissioned this month.”

NHPC is expected to commission the hydro projects including the 132MW Teesta (West Bengal), 213MW Chamera-III (Himachal Pradesh), 240MW Uri and 44MW Chutak in J&K in the current fiscal.
