Originally developed in 2009, the conversion system is claimed to offer higher performance with lesser component stress, lower cost, and higher reliability using its circuit design, compared with 2-level converters.

Northern Power Systems CEO and president Troy Patton said: "Customers value our proven, flexible and reliable technology, and this solution combined with their own technology allows unique and market leading capabilities that enable excellent results."

The power converter supports energy storage applications through its control capabilities, including low and zero voltage ride through, voltage and frequency droop control, islanding detection and seamless transition, critical load support / UPS operation, black start capability and minimal DC bus ripple.

The company will showcase the FlexPhase power converter at the Energy Storage Association’s 25th Annual Conference and Expo to be held from 27 – 29 May in Texas, US.

Northern Power Systems produces and sells wind turbines and power technology products as well as provides engineering services and technology licenses for energy applications.
