The Norwegian government has promised to deliver 3000 tonne of heating oil for schools, kindergartens and public institutions in 15 Serbian towns to assist them during the coming winter. The offer, from the Norwegian ambassador in Belgrade, signals a continuation of an oil for democracy scheme which was launched after NATO’s 1999 bombing campaign in Yugoslavia.

The oil deliveries, worth $862 000, will initially reach Belgrade, Gornji Milanovac and Cacak, reaching the 12 remaining towns a few days later. The oil will be supplied from the Brod refinery in Bosnia.
