According to the schedule, the COL final safety evaluation report is to be issued in August 2011 and the mandatory hearing process will be completed in December 2011.

Southern Nuclear will start the construction of the units once the COL is received by the end of this year.

The company will commission two AP1000 units of 1,100MW for Georgia Power and co-owners Oglethorpe Power, the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia and Dalton Utilities.

The two units will be capable of generating clean, safe and reliable power, which would be enough to power for more than 500,000 homes Georgia. Georgia Power owns 45.7% of the new units, which is estimated around. $6.1bn.
