Construction of the Elbow Creek wind project is expected to take nine months with commercial operation slated for 2008 year-end. The project will use 53 Siemens 2.3MW wind turbines, enough to supply power to nearly 100,000 homes.
The Elbow Creek wind project will be built on an approximately 6,700-acre tract of land. Early land rights to the project were acquired from Wind Plus Holdings.
Jan Paulin, senior vice president of NRG, said: Adding Elbow Creek to NRG’s generation fleet increases our portfolio fuel diversity in Texas. Through these wind projects as well as others in varying stages of development in Texas and California, Padoma will build on NRG’s commitment to expanding its ownership of zero-fuel, zero-emission wind power.
