As reported, out of the proposed 25,000MW new capacity, 7,720MW will be generated in the Indian state of Orissa. The company plans to establish two new power facilities of 3200MW capacity each at Gajamara and Darliapalli in Orissa.

Besides, the company is also planning to start the expansion work of the 460MW Talcher Thermal Power Station, with addition of two units of 660MW each.

R S Sharma, CMD of NTPC, said: “NTPC will achieve the current plan target of 18,000MW by the end of March 2012. The total capacity of the power major would be over 50,000MW by the end of the current plan period.”

With a current generating capacity of 30,644MW, NTPC has embarked on plans to become a 75,000MW company by 2017.
