An agreement signed between nuclear regulators in Canada and India has brought implementation of a full nuclear co-operation agreement between the two countries one step closer.
The ‘appropriate arrangement,’ signed by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and India’s Department of Atomic Energy on 21 March, establishes the modalities for a joint committee formed by the two countries. This step is mandated by the Nuclear Co-operation Agreement.
With the appropriate arrangement finalised, the governments of the two countries can now take steps to bring the full o-operation agreement into force. It would allow Canadian companies to export nuclear equipment, including uranium fuel, for peaceful uses in accordance with Canada’s nuclear non-proliferation policy
