Strikes began at the mine with workers demanding a higher wages and now NUM had arrived at a decision with the company over the basic salary, reported SABC.

Petra Diamond Mine General Manager Juan Kemp commented that the company endorses a no work, no pay principle towards those who participated in the illegal industrial strike at the Cullinan Diamond Mine.

"And that we also know the backdrop of what is happening in the country in the mining industry at the moment, we decided not to take disciplinary action against employees that were absent without our permission as a result of this industrial action," Kemp said.

NUM Gauteng Secretary Mpho Phakedi was further quoted by the website as saying, "We are looking forward to engaging with the company as from next week with regard to wage negotiations."
