Power generated from the renewable projects to be selected in the proposal will be supplied to about 200,000 Nevada homes.
The renewable projects can include wind, solar, geothermal, biomass and biogas projects which are compliant with Nevada’s renewable portfolio standards. NV Energy is also considering to include supplemental battery storage systems that will be integrated into the renewable energy projects.
The company stated that proposals for the projects will be evaluated on a competitive basis on several factors including best value to customers of NV Energy and creation of economic benefits to the State of Nevada.
Bids for the new renewable projects are due by February 2. Projects proposed by successful bidders will need the approval from the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada.
NV Energy anticipates the projects to be completed and start operating by 2020 or 2021.
NV Energy president and CEO Paul Caudill said: “As important as this opportunity is to further the state’s desire for clean energy, equally important is that we expect to deliver these renewable projects to customers without increasing rates.
“Renewable energy projects like these result in employment of construction trades and create longer term operations and maintenance opportunities.”
Caudill noted that the company aims to double its renewable energy delivery to customers by 2023.
In November last year, NV Energy had sought approval from the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada for three new long-term power purchase agreements (PPA) for 100MW solar power capacity.
One of the three solar projects includes the 50MW Turquoise Nevada which is planned to be constructed in the Reno Technology Park in Washoe County, Nevada.
