He added that in the US even if coal-fired power stations are closed, India and China will still depend on coal.

The new funds allocated for clean technology are in addition to the $2.2 billion sanctioned by Congress for CCS projects in this fiscal year.

In the US and overseas, several tests are being conducted. However none of these tests are being regarded as totally clean or cost-effective.

Chu said “This funding will both create jobs now and help position the United States to lead the world in CCS technologies, which will be in increasing demand in the years ahead.”
