Ofgem (Office of Gas and Electric Markets) gave notice to Northern Electric and Northern Electric & Gas to take immediate action to improve billing operations or face enforcement action in 28 days.

Ofgem Director General Callum McCarthy said: “We have clear evidence that these electricity and gas suppliers are failing to meet the requirements under the Electricity and Gas Acts to provide customers with timely and accurate billing. It is time for Northern’s management to take decisive action to solve these problems. The proposed orders of which I am giving notice are designed to ensure this happens. If the company does not make satisfactory progress, NE&G will not be allowed actively to market to more gas customers until it can provide all its customers with the level of service to which they are entitled by law.”
