OG&E is already providing its customers with 170 MW of wind power, 50 MW from the Sooner Wind Farm, which started operations in 2003, and 120 MW from the Centennial Wind Farm, which has been commissioned in 2007. The three wind farms are in northwestern Oklahoma near Woodward. OG&E is planning to add around 700 MW of wind power to its system in the next few years, including the 101 MW from OU Spirit.

In September 2008, in an agreement OG&E and OU summarized a plan for OU’s Norman campus to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2013. Construction of OU Spirit wind farm is a part of that agreement.

Following foundation work this spring, wind turbines will be assembled at the site beginning in August 2009.

OG&E shares OU’s long-term commitment to developing Oklahoma’s resources, said Pete Delaney, OG&E’s president, chairman and chief executive officer. Working with state officials and public and private partners, our plan is to make Oklahoma a national leader in renewable energy for the benefit of all of our customers.
