Under the 30-month contract, the consortium will construct the natural gas-fired power plant, which will feature two H-type turbines with Siemens technology.

Scheduled to enter service in November 2017, the facility will generate 770MW of power to the northern part of the country.

According to CFE estimates, energy demand in northern Mexico is set to grow by 3.6% annually.

The consortium will provide services including the basic and detailed engineering, the procurement of all equipment, materials, spare parts and special tools, and the construction, testing and commissioning of the plant.

The consortium representatives said: "We would like to express our gratitude for the trust CFE has placed in the consortium to carry out the design, construction and commissioning of this important power station."

The consortium estimates that the project would generate about 1,500 jobs during the construction phase.

Siemens official said: "We are proud that OHL Industrial and SENER have chosen SIEMENS H technology, that with 16 units in commercial operation for CFE projects, is a pioneer in Latin America in very high-efficiency combined cycle plants."
