Oakland International said that the project was initiated following a feasibility study during which it compared existing fluorescent and incandescent lights to the new LED lights.

The company said that the project is expected to deliver operational benefits with the new LED lights producing enhanced illumination, reduced heat gain and, due to their extended life, offering less disruption and risk within the warehouse owing to bulb failure.

Pete Vaughan, strategic development manager and chairman of energy committee at Oakland, said: ”Oakland International has a strong tradition of investigating and implementing eco-friendly initiatives throughout its operations, and through the company’s energy committee we continue to investigate alternative processes and methods to reduce our environmental footprint and that of our customers.

”The installation of LED lighting will have an immediate benefit by greatly reducing Oakland’s energy consumption and enhancing the working environment for Oakland staff with a much improved lighting solution more akin to daylight.”
