Our commitment is to spend $75 million in first phase of exploration on each block, an OMEL spokesperson said. Exploration started on the two blocks on February 23, 2007. We plan to commence drilling in the second half of 2009 on OPL 285 and in 2010 on OPL 279 depending on rig availability, OMEL spokesperson said.

The first exploration period for two blocks ends in 2012. First Exploration phase of the blocks comprises of the commitments of acquisition and processing of 500 square kilometers of 3D seismic and the drilling of one exploration well. The second five-year exploration period, which is optional, will comprise of the acquisition of an additional 500 square kilometers of 3D seismic and the drilling of two wells.

Operatorship remains with OMEL. Total is the technical advisor to OMEL. Total has reimbursed OMEL with pro rata share of signature bonus and past costs.

Total holds 25.67% and 14.5% stakes in deep offshore license OPL 285 and OPL 279 respectively. EMO Exploration and Production is also partner on the two blocks.

OPL 285 is situated 80 kilometers offshore, near the Bonga field, in 400 to 900 meters water depths. OPL 285 comprising of around 1,170 square kilometers in area.

OPL 279 comprises 1,125 square kilometers in area and is situated around 100 kilometers offshore, near the Ehra and Bosi fields, in 800 to 1,800 meters water depths.
