Pakistan is facing problem in developing renewable power like other countries and hence the country needs to identify the difficulties it is facing for developing renewable power, Ashraf said. He said that the major difficulties the country is facing in developing renewable energy are the availability of state of the art technology, skills and knowledge and the necessary financial mechanism, for the promotion of the technology at all levels.

The nation has set a target to add 5% (about 10,000 MW) power through renewable energies by year 2030, said Ashraf. This is in addition to replacement of 5% diesel with bio-diesel by year 2015 and 10% by 2025, he said.

He said that the country needs to develop necessary financial mechanism that responds to the special requirements of the renewable energy sector. Pakistan feels that if level playing field is provided to the renewable power sector, they are the least expensive, environment friendly and the most sustainable resources of energy, Ashraf added.
