Vanco Brasil drilled the exploration well Sabia-1X on block BM-S-72 in a water depth of 195m and spud to a total depth of 4,200m, and collected the samples and confirmed the presence of hydrocarbon zones.
The company has sent the samples for further analysis to evaluate the commercial viability.
GSF Arctic I, a moored semi-submersible drilling unit, was used to drill the exploration well.
Vanco Brasil holds 70% working interest in three concessions BM-S-72, BM-S-63 and BM-S-71 while the remaining 30% is equally owned by Panoro Energy do Brasil and Brasoil Round 9 Exploracáo Petrolifera.
Ecopetrol Óleo e Gás do Brasil has entered an agreement with Vanco Brasil to acquire 30% interest in the three concessions.
