Scheduled to enter service in the second half of 2017, the Hummel Station power facility will be capable of supplying to large power markets, including Philadelphia and New York City as well as provide benefits to the region during construction and the operational life of the facility.
"I’m extremely proud of the Panda team in their work with Sunbury Generation and UGI Energy Services to complete the lateral pipeline agreement.
During the two-and-a half-year construction phase, the project is expected to generate approximately 800 jobs.
The project will also help support a long-term market for Pennsylvania Marcellus Shale gas producers and royalty owners, the company claimed.
Featuring the most advanced emissions-control technology, the Hummel Station generating facility is expected to supply 260% more power than the coal facility it replaces while key air emissions will be reduced by approximately 97%.
About 97% less water will be used by the new generating station for cooling purposes than the decommissioned coal-fired Sunbury plant.
