Planned to be issued in September 2014, the RFQ is as part of the utility-grade integrated resource plan (IRP) which was initiated by Parker Ranch and is currently under development by a Siemens-led three-party consortium.

The IRP is assessing new community-based energy solution for Greater Waimea and the Kohala Region as well as large-scale energy resources.

The Parker Ranch’s IRP primary objective is to identify strategies to lower electricity rates for consumers and significantly improve the renewable energy percentage in the generation mix.

Parker Ranch CEO Neil "Dutch" Kuyper said: "We are nearing the completion of our IRP with Siemens."

"While we are currently focused on the concept of a community microgrid for Waimea and Kohala, we are evaluating concepts on multiple levels, from a community-wide solution to large-scale strategies which could benefit the entire island," said Kuyper.

Paniolo Power is seeking to quantify the capital costs as well as identify design requirements associated with a wide range of potential hydro-energy storage solutions, from 10MW to as high as 200MW.

Paniolo Power will also issue a subsequent request for information (RFI) to a select group of RFQ participants, upon evaluation.
