Pars Oil and Gas Company managing director Mousa Souri said the gas field is important for the countries oil and gas industries and the company is expecting progress in the area in the current Iranian year.

"The economic potentials of this region (South Pars) are 19 billion barrels of gas condensate (reserves), 14.2 trillion cubic meters of in-place gas (reserves), 7.5 billion barrels of crude oil reserves (in oil layers) and the largest source of world’s helium with a capacity of 28 percent helium gas storage," Souri said.

Iran’s gross national product can be increased by one percent by operating each phase of the South Pars gas field, according to the company.

Earlier, British multinational oil and gas company, BP, in a Statistical Review of World Energy suggested that Iran has oil reserves for the next 88 years.
