Patriot Coal has 14 current coal mining complexes in Appalachia and the Illinois Basin. The company ships to domestic and international electric utilities, industrial users and metallurgical coal customers, and controls approximately 1.8 billion tons of probable coal reserves.
Richard Whiting, CEO of Patriot Coal, said: “Our team has worked hard to successfully address MSHA’s concerns and implement this enhanced ventilation plan. We are pleased that the Federal mine has resumed operation in a relatively short period of time.
“Maintaining a safe work environment for our employees has been our overarching goal as we suspended production and now reopen the mine. Consistent with our mission statement, safety will continue to be our highest priority and the cornerstone of our relationship with our employees.”
