Pepco has begun six to eight-hour countrywide load shedding on March 21, 2009 after Tarbela Dam attained its dead level and water releases from Mangla Dam on river Jhelum were ceased which forced closing of Mangla hydel power generating unit. Director General of Pepco, Tahir Basharat Cheema said that addition of around 800 MW electricity to the national grid; load shedding hours would be decreased now, bringing great relief of the industrial, commercial and local consumers.
