Investments are expected to strengthen Peru’s energy supply, thereby enabling long term sustainable growth while promoting social development, reported Bernama.

Peru Deputy Energy Minister Edwin Quintanilla remarked that Peru’s economy and energy sector were both demonstrating impressive growth.

"Energy demand in Peru has grown from seven to eight percent in recent years and it is expected to maintain this expansion rate in the following years, while supply will grow more than 15 percent," said Quintanilla.

Quintanilla further added that expanding the hydroelectric sector will ultimately produce 1,349MW by 2013, entailing a total cost of $1.4bn.
